Indietorrents.com has gone covert?

If you attempt to access indietorrents.com now all you'll see is a lighting bolt. And a link to an explination on what torrents are.

fear not the site is still accessible by going to http://www.indietorrents.com/login.php

For those not in the know: Indie Torrents was once a viable OiNK alternative until most people that got booted headed over to OiNK. This was way back in 2005. Remember those days?

Hey maybe you should consider that Indietorrents wants to stay under the radar, everyone who's already on the site already knew how to access it, and anyone who's invited to the site will know how to access it. I'm sure the administrators at Indietorrents would really appreciate it if you deleted this from your blog. Theres no need for this to be public information, anyone with half a brain already figured out how to access the site if they didn't know already.

I was on indietorrents before I got an oink account. Once I got oink I gave up IT forever though. My account was deleted for inactivity. How I long for it now..

Don't you think it was linked like that for a reason!

INVITES CLOSED, IRC PASSWORD PROTECTED

What was the point of this post? Invites are closed and current members all ready know how to access the site

For most people who care and have been and are still members, indietorrents was/is not just a viable alternative but the preferred alternative.

Lots of love for oinks and I'm sorry to see it go, but indietorrents has a completely different approach to content, among other things. Obviously the admins didn't want everybody flocking to it as "the Oink's replacement" which you yourself said it isn't even viable as.

As others said, please remove this post, it's misleading.

Seriously man, shut the hell up.

Thank god we're not a viable alternative. I don't know what I'd do if I was up to my ears in transcodes and mistagged albums.

Let Diana rest in peace you fucking silly billy.

what is wrong with you people? Aside from being music trackers, Oink and indietorrents are very very different beasts and serve relatively non-overlapping constituencies. From their actions, it seems indietorrents wants to avoid attention. Given that OiNK and the indietorrents admins were on friendly terms, I imagine he would have respected that. Why won't you?

oh cmon, /login.php doesn't change anything. it's pretty easy to guess don't u think?

what IT could do to go undercover is to really change their login layout.
even if it has torrent in its domain name it would still be doubtful what the site contains if it didn't have the common tb design.

I can't believe all of you people who are upset about this. As if changing that homepage would stop anyone for any long period of time. Being that IT doesn't carry RIAA or BPI related records who is there to care what goes on? Plus torrents are all about the free transfer of information isn't it a bit hypocritical to get upset over someone revealing some cheesy page change? No one cares and the people that do to stop panicking because... wait for it... no one really cares! Geez.

It's about respecting the wishes of another long-standing bittorrent community that has been around as long as or even longer than OPP was. Admins of these other sites are all volunteers donating their time & money to provide a resource for the community. Of course a few minor cosmetic changes are not going to keep indietorrents or other sites from the prying eyes of the RIAA et al. But minimizing the amount of undesired attention is perfectly reasonable and prudent. Considering IT & libble are both not accepting new members and don't want to be blogged about here or elsewhere, the considerate thing to do would be to leave them alone.

I feel like this is the same kind of sentiment as when the US government has these public buildings that everyone knows about and they try to suppress any knowledge of it or get upset when someone draws attention to it. The US agencies then proceed to subsequently harass them for it. And for what? This has happened to me trying to photograph different public buildings. I say that to draw out similarities between our post 9/11 government and those people here that are slandering the writer for writing about this. The respect you are talking about is abstract and as far as I can tell unfounded. I have no knowledge of the admins of Indietorrents stating that they would rather not be blogged about. Even if they did what right do they have? They have a public Internet address that anyone can access and that anyone should be able to talk about. Anytime someone tries to suppress knowledge with this generation we disseminate it. In general I see a real double standard here. To try and suppress such blatantly public knowledge is asinine and amounts to what the different organizations tried to do when the HD-DVD key was released. The more you suppress the more we disseminate. I by the way am a member of indietorrents.

To equate open disagreement and complaints with government suppression is more than just a little melodramatic, don't you think? Please, pass the tinfoil.

IT's actions alone speak for their desire to remain under the radar. That sentiment does not need to be broadcasted to be obvious.

As one of the oldest surviving well-known music trackers, IT is already common knowledge in the bittorrent community. Anyone who was sincerely interested in our content and way of doing things probably already was a member. It's not like it was that hard to find an invite for a determined person truly passionate about independent music. If not, and they are only now finding about about us, ok. Just chill and wait for things to blow over.

You are right, there is no right on the part of indietorrents nor an obligation for this blogger or others. However, as kindred spirits among the music enthusiast file-sharing community, I would think the respect I speak of earlier would just be common decency.

Yeah, you wanna not put this in a blog?
That would be great.

All of you complaining about this post are god damned idiots, you really think a phony front page puts a site "under the radar"? That dose not offer a site any level of protection, the only way a site might actually be able to stay under the radar is to not have a large user base.

I find this quite interesting. Swear words to make somebody delete a post that will not change anything if removed. How little sense is in there. Fuck (I am cool)!

Hey, thanks for the post. I've always just clicked through from the main page, so you helped me get back on. I'm not very active on the site, usually "park" my account to keep it from getting deleted, so it's great to have the URL for the login.

And no, no harm done by posting this, per comments above about the site not allowing any RIAA stuff.

Bummer about Oink, but it was just a matter of time. Others like it will spring up somehow. Genie's out of the bottle.

Indietorrent has a good model. They don't allow lossless posts, because (as they say) the place to get those is at the record store. Support artists!

nice one, genius. what the jesus hell is wrong with you?

Ha. Considering Indie torrents pre-dates OiNK by about a year, that's a funny statement.

Ahahah, it's pathetic to see people trying to protect their precious little way of "sharing" stuff they didn't own or create in the first place. Grow up, everyone. If it's meant to be shared, then share or shut the fuck up about someone "revealing" your pathetic URI.

The internet turns people into berks.

Cursing at a guy because he divulged something as simple as a name change makes you no better then the initial post, actually taking the time to curse him is quite sad... move on.
